As Erin and I plan our wedding, we agreed that certain songs are off limit for the reception. In fact, we’ve blacklisted more songs than we have approved. One of the biggest names on that list is Journey — I’m fraking sick of hearing “Don’t Stop Believing.”

Well, that was until tonight, when I heard “Oh Sherrie” by Steve Perry on the radio. The DJ will play this song for several reasons. 1. It’s awesome — but not in a good way. 2. It has not yet been co-opted by drunk d-bags at fratty bars in lame neighborhoods. Key word: Yet. 3. BASEketball. When I was in high school, we loved that movie. So much, in fact, that my friends started their own BASEketball league, complete with Journey psych outs, just like in the movie.

And that’s why I can’t wait to sing this terrible, terrible song at my wedding reception. Also: The original video.

Snowicane vs. Snowacane

Earlier today, after receiving a much-anticipated package, I uploaded a photo with the caption: Adam: 1, Snowicane: 0. I put little effort into the post and, for “snowicane,” just combined the word snow with hurricane. Easy. But just a bit ago, while reading Gothamist, I noticed a different spelling: Snowacane (emphasis added).

Concerned I somehow muffed the spelling, I turned to Google to see which was more correct.

Obviously, this is a pressing matter. Judging by Google results alone, I’d guess I’m correct, and being the nerd that I am, this matters. (And when have Google search results ever been wrong?) (Ed. note: Seriously, there are more than 2 million links for that search!) But here’s my question: How the frig did someone decide to use the letter “a” rather than “i”? “Snowicane” is a combination of “snow” and “hurricane,” not “hurracane,” right? How did a newspaper editor let that spelling slip by? Have I been spelling hurricane wrong my entire life? Is Firefox’s spell check lying to me now? Do I have too much time free time on my hands?

You know what? Don’t answer that last one.

I swear to God, if the SnowHurricane messes with the delivery of my copy of Baseball Prospectus, I might get very angry and do something to release the rage, but that something will probably really be nothing other than shoveling the side walk in front of our apartment because our landlord is a chump, and then complaining about the weather like there’s someone who has some control over it.

So, yeah, I’m excited about getting this.

Surfer Blood//Floating Vibes

This might be my favorite album of the year, so far. ~~Though, I think it’s the only album I’ve listened to so far, but nonetheless.~~

Edit: I take that back. I’ve listened to several others, including Contra and Transference. In fact, I’m probably more up to date on releases this year than I have been in a long time. That said, I’ve had some other amazing finds so far this year, but they were all released in the 1960s, the best of which was by a Columbus-based garage band. But more on that another day.
